Cooking Academy is a cooking game similar to Cooking Mama, where the objective is to make dishes by performing a series of mini-games. These games are steps of a dish recipe, emulating common kitchen tasks. All the actions are performed with mouse gestures and clicks, with the recipes organized by meal (appetizers, breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert). As a cooking academy student, the player must complete all the recipes from one category in order to move to the next one.
The mini-games vary according to the task. Green arrows overlaid over the food show the movement that must be performed. An egg timer at the top of the screen shows the time left to complete the step. In the chopping block, the food has to be sliced, diced or chopped by clicking or dragging the cursor over it. In the mixing screen, there's a bowl at the center with various ingredients surrounding it, and a small window showing a diffuse image of the ingredient that must be added to the mix. In the stove top the player must perform a series of instructions, written on blocks that move from right to left in a tab at the bottom of the screen, at the exact moment they pass under the marker to stir, change temperature and add ingredients to a pot.
Certain tasks require precision and good timing, like separating egg yolk and peeling lettuces. When pouring or squeezing mixtures, the player must be careful to not let it spill over. After finishing all the recipes and receiving good grades, a number of exams must be completed before moving on to the next meal group. In these tests, the objective is to perform the same task many times over, and as fast as possible before time runs out.
