A-Train 8 features similar gameplay to its ancestors in the long-running series, particularly the Xbox 360 release, A-TrainHX.
As CEO of a powerful rail company, it is your task to create an effective mass-transit system and stimulate the growth of urban areas. Your passenger trains will take commuters to offices, workers to factories and holiday-makers to amusement parks. Freight trains will transport building materials from factories to new development sites. Schedules must be tweaked for maximum profit, and you will have to make adjustments depending on the season and changing nature of the city's zones.
As well as laying down tracks and setting up stations, you can get into the property market, building anything from hotels, to high-rises, to ski resorts. A-Train 8 even includes some famous landmarks, such as Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower.
It is possible to take out bank loans and play the stock market (with 50 different companies to trade on).
There are 30 scenarios in the game and a built-in editor allows you to change any existing map or create your own from the ground up.
The world is represented in full 3D with fully adjustable camera angles and zoom level. There is also a first-person camera mode that allows a 'driver's eye view' of your trains.
'Winning' at any scenario involves the small matter of making a trillion monetary units (No actual currency symbol is used in the English-language release). However, if you achieve this goal, you are free to carry on playing in a 'sandbox' mode for as long as you like.
The game is fully HD and WUXGA compliant. It can be run in resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and has additional options if your PC is hooked up to an HD television.
