BlockOn! is another experimental title from prolific indie developer Cactus, this time made in just 3 hours.
This is a platform game in which you have to collect all the red items, at which point the exit door will open and you can proceed to the next level. However, there is a serious twist - You have to create the levels yourself!
First you will be shown the positions of your character, the collectible items and the exit. Using the mouse, you can place and remove blocks, to create platforms. When you're ready, press 'space' to start the level. The game will add its own touches to your design by adding randomly placed hazards including guards, spike traps and lasers. If you die or press 'R' to restart, you get the chance to make changes to your block placement; which you will sometimes find necessary! The game may also change its placement of enemies and traps at this time.
As usual with Cactus' work, BlockOn! is an experiment in visual style as well as play mechanics. Though you can't tell by looking at the screenshots, there is a fuzzy, ever-moving look to the minimalist, 4-color graphics.
