Zamzee is an online rewards program and game-like experience powered by your physical activity. Players wear a device with an accelerometer that monitors their movement and translates it to points that can be then redeemed for both digital and real-world rewards. The game is meant to combat childhood obesity and encourage physical activity.
The idea behind the Zamzee experience comes from Hopelab, creators of the successful Cancer education game, Re-Mission. The goal is to make physical activity fun and rewarding for young teens. To take part in Zamzee, players wear a small device that is calibrated to read their movements, whether they are dancing in their bedrooms or playing sports with friends. That data is then compiled and shared online via the Zamzee website. The information uploaded not only tracks their physical activity but is also converted to points that can be spent on the Zamzee online store for virtual goods, real world gift cards or the ability to donate to charity organizations. The game designers hope to encourage more young teens to take control of their health by giving them rewards that they actually want as well as a safe place to share their progress.
