Game Classification

AC-130: Operation Devastation is a first person shooting game where the player is the gunner of a Lockheed AC-130 gunship. The player only has control over the gunship's weapons and can not affect it's movement. Therefore the gameplay is similar to a rail shooter. The plane moves in a predefined path and the player has to aim and shoot at enemy units on the ground below him. The campaign consists of twelve missions from historical conflicts such as the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and War in Afghanistan. The objectives usually involve destroying enemy vehicles and buildings while protecting and giving support to friendly troops. At the same time the player should avoid damaging civilian structures.

The player can switch between three different weapons, 25, 40 and 105 mm. Each weapon has a different rate of fire and do different amount of damage. The 105 mm gun make big explosive damage but has a long reload time between shots. The 25 mm gun however is rapid and is useful against larger groups of enemies. The 40 mm gun is somewhere in between. Each gun has a predefined level of zoom that can't be altered. 'The player can also launch flares. [source:mobygames]
