Age of Japan is a match three game with Japanese-like symbols and music. To make a match, you swap two items so that there is a straight line of three or more of the same, vertically or horizontally. The object is to clear the gray tiles by making matches over them. If there are gold tiles, you must match them to turn them gray then match them again.
There are two game modes. In arcade mode, you can make as many moves as you wish but you have a limited time to clear the board. In puzzle mode, you have no time limit but you are limited in the number of moves per board. After you make so many points, you begin to acquire brooms. Brooms are used to remove the item in one tile but they do not remove the gray or gold under the tiles.
As you progress through the levels, you gain bonuses. These include double or triple point bonuses that double or triple the points of any match they are in. Also, there is the bomb. This, when matched, destroys all the items that surround it. You also have the multicolor that can replace any item when making matches. One rather nice bonus is quake. This destroys all items that are paired together with a like item, anywhere on the board.
