Fairy tales used to be dark cautionary tales for children that taught them morals and showed scary outcomes for those who were naughty and not nice. Now they are sugary stories of cute talking animals with a required happy ending. You play as Grimm who wants to modify each fairy tale with darker environments and scarier events.

This first episode of the second season of American McGee's Grimm has The Master Thief upon returning home after years spent becoming an affluent thief only stealing from bad people deciding to confess to his godfather the count and be spared a hanging. The count agrees but only if he can steal three impossible-to-get items to show his skill.

The light version of the story is first shown, and the dark version that Grimm goes about making as he progresses through the bigger than usual levels is now more different from the original tale than in past episodes. He turns it into a horror movie with the hero becoming a monster hunter who meets up with zombies, werewolves and vampires. Hidden coins are harder to find and will reduce remaining time on level enabling players to achieve faster times. Some powerups will also help you out as you go through the level touching as many things (the bigger the better) as possible until your dark meter has reached the required level to progress you to the next level. The darken version of the story Grimm has created will be shown at the end. [source:mobygames]
