Game Classification

An ancient mosaic which bound the world together in harmony was shattered into pieces long ago. Travel back in time to places in ancient times, reassemble the individual pieces which, when reunited, will restore balance to the world. Seven locations, with seven puzzles each, will need to be solved to finish the game. The first location is the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan in circa 1500 A.D.

Ancient Mosaic is an inlay puzzle game. Empty containers of various shapes appear on the puzzle screen, while "mosaics" (pieces) scroll across the bottom on a conveyor from right to left. Pick up mosaics from the conveyor and insert them into the puzzle, rotating by right clicking as necessary.

Several tools appear on the left side of the screen. The magic wand removes a part of the puzzle itself; the hammer deletes any shape on the conveyor; and the crusher transforms a mosaic on the conveyor into its minimum shape. It is also possible to delete a mosaic by dropping it into a "annihilator" trash bin.

There are three modes of play:Action (timed) - The puzzle board moves left quickly and the inlays must be filled before they fall off the screen.Strategy (not timed) - When a mosaic is placed, the conveyor moves more pieces in from right to left.Classic - The mosaics don't move and the game prompts for new piecesThe conveyor brings bonus pieces into play randomly. One, for instance, automatically rotates the mosaics for you while another highlights the closest fit for the selected mosaic. As the game progresses, puzzles move faster and become more elaborate and additional bonus items become available

The game features original music and sound effects. A new desktop wallpaper, which can be saved, is unlocked when each location's puzzles are completed. [source:mobygames]
