Atomic Butcher is a freeware, post-apocalyptic platform shooter with gameplay similar to Abuse, where the main character is a survivor of a nuclear holocaust hunting for food sources on the radioactive wasteland. The game starts at the fallout shelter with a quick tutorial explaining the basic controls: the mouse has a crosshair cursor to aim and shoot the weapon, while the famous WASD keys are used to move and jump over gaps. The default weapon is a lethal stream of endless glowing urine capable of killing any enemy, but of limited use due to its short range. More efficient weaponry can be found scattered around the landscape, ranging from revolvers and shotguns to flamethrowers, assault rifles and grenade launchers. Armour and power-ups can also be found laying around, with syringes filled with drugs boosting the abilities of the protagonist, and radioactive symbols making his piss more powerful for a few seconds.
The main objective of each stage is to gather a minimum amount of meat to open an exit to the next level. The flesh of the slaughtered mutants has to be collected to complete this gruesome task, with excess meat being stored for bonus upgrades for the health meter and the weapons between levels. The game only saves at the start of a new level, but several skull checkpoints are placed at regular intervals to avoid tedious backtracking.
