Azteca is a typical tile matching game. The player is presented with a field full of differently-coloured circles and he can move his mouse cursor to select a combination of three bordering circles. When he clicks these three circles spin around and if three or more same-coloured circles are in a bordering state during the process they vanish and reward points. If this is not the case the circles return to the previous state. To fill up the now open space new (random) circles fall down from the top of the screen. Of course there is a possibility for new combinations emerging during the filling up process; these combos give a lot of extra points.
The main goal of the 150 levels is to cause all circles to vanish which are marked with a letter. Over the course of the game this gets more difficult because of tighter time limits and additional obstacles, e.g stones which have to be broken by falling circles. There are also also power ups which help the player, e.g. by vanishing all bordering circles or all circles directly under and above it.
