Game Classification

Battle of Words is a combination of Battleships and a word guessing game.

First, you place your 5 ships (three 3, two 4 and 1 five cell ships) at the 12x12 cell playfield - so that they don't are adjacent. Now you assign words to the ships, whereby the 5-cell-ship gets a five-letter-word and so on. The computer does the same on its hidden playfield. When ready, start the game...

The playfield is now split into four parts. Upper left is your fleet which the computer tries to find, upper right is the enemy fleet. Lower left is your alphabet and at lower right is your target's alphabet.

You start and shoot at either the water trying to find a ship or you shoot at the alphabet to reveal if the letter is used or not. If you hit (ship location or letter used) you can fire again until you miss, then the opponent gets the chance.

The player who first locate all ships and reveals all used words by the enemy wins the game. [source:mobygames]
