In Biocosm players control a specimen collection unit on the surface of a planet. Shaped like a forklift truck, players steer it to the left and use the pincher (controlled through the space bar) to grab creatures and drag them back to the right, into the light, where they are beamed up. Both the creatures and their movement are procedurally generated. They will not attack, but their twitching will hinder the player, making it difficult to get hold of their bodies and they can even overthrow the unit. To win the game, the player has to collect nine specimens. There is background music and the game's colours change with each new session.
