In the sixth installment of the Bit. Trip-series, the player controls Commander Video in a 2D rail shooter. But Commander Video is not alone this time - he's got help from his friends!
In each level of the game, the player has to dodge enemy bullets by moving left and right on a pre-determined path. Vertical movement is controlled entirely by the varying shape of the path. Simultaneously, cross hairs can be controlled to aim shots at enemies. Upon destruction, enemies drop power ups which can be collected and upgrade the player's mode to the next higher level after a certain amount has been picked up. Each level also means a stronger attack for Commander Video and a greater score multiplier. At certain points in the level, a power up in the shape of one of Commander Video's friends will appear, which give the player a special weapon for a limited amount of time. If Commander Video's plus-shaped heart is struck by a bullet, the mode is downgraded until Nether is reached, the final mode. One more hit at this stage, and the player has to start the level again from the beginning. At the end of each level in this scrolling shooter a boss awaits Commander Video that has especially powerful attacks.
In contrary to previous games of the series, the emphasis on the rhythm aspect is not that evident anymore. However, Bit. Trip Fate's visuals and audio are still in the style of its predecessors.
