Bit.Trip Void is part of the 6-game series of Bit.Trip games popularized on Nintendo's Wii Ware download service.
Bit.Trip Void combines bullet hell shoot-em-ups with rhythm games and rather than controlling a spaceship or some other attacking object, players take control of a black void. Essentially, a black circle behaving somewhat like a black hole. The bullets fired at the player are small black or white squares that come from all directions, typically in rhythmic patterns. Players must absorb black bullets while avoiding white bullets. Each black bullet that the player collects causes the void and combo multiplier to grow, where each white bullet undoes everything and sets the void back to it's original size and the combo multiplier back to nothing.
Players may push a button to cause the void to shrink to normal size without losing their combo multiplier, which becomes necessary after collecting large numbers of black bullets since the void can grow to screen-filling sizes, where it becomes impossible to physically dodge incoming white bullets. Additionally, players may obtain the ability to repel white bullets, and this plays an important role in the gameplay. If a player continuously misses too many black bullets or collides with too many white ones, they are sent to a "netherworld." If they continue to fail concerning the black or white bullets, they will receive a game over.
The game features three stages, each broken up into three checkpoints and each stage contains a boss battle. The game features simultaneous play for up to four players, however, the levels do not alter from the single player game.
