Bloodline Champions is an arena based player vs. player game where players compete in teams consisting of up to five players each. Each player takes control of one of several heroes called bloodlines each with it's own abilities. A bloodline has seven unique abilities, which can be used both to do damage to the enemy but also to help his own team. There are four basic classes in the game: tank, melee damage, range damage and healer. For each class there are five different bloodlines to choose from. Tanks have high health and has abilities that allows it to take damage and control enemies. Melee and range damage classes are more vulnerable but has abilities that allow them to quickly kill enemies. Healers are vulnerable too but can use abilities that help the team to survive.
The game is played from a top down perspective and the player uses mouse and keyboard controls to move his bloodline around. To attack the player simply aims at the enemy and uses one of his offensive abilities. Abilities (except the main ability) have a short cooldown during which the player can't use that ability. The player gains energy every time he hits a target and once his energy bar is full he gets access to a an extra powerful ability called the ultimate ability. Healing is a bit special since it doesn't increase the normal health but instead gives the player recovery health which is limited to a certain amount. This is meant to prevent players from hiding and quickly heal up to full health.
There are three different game modes in Bloodline Champions: arena, capture the artifact and conquest. In arena the goal is to kill everyone in the opposing team. It's played until one team has won a certain number of rounds. In capture the artifact each team has an artifact and the goal of it is to gain control over both. The player that carries an artifact will do more damage but will also be slower and more vulnerable. In conquest a team wins by holding all objectives for a certain amount of time. Holding all objectives lead to respawns being disabled for the opposition.
The game is free to play although it supports micro transactions through an in-game store. In the store players can choose to buy new Bloodlines, weapon skins, Bloodline skins and titles. The free version of the game has four bloodlines available on a weekly rotation.
