Lisa is a medical school student that takes a babysitting job for the university's dean, hoping to receive a letter of recommendation. Once arriving at his manor, she meets the dean's wife on her way out and is left in charge of the mansion. While watching some television, she's startled by the two children, twin sisters with one of them disfigured by a horrible skin disease. As she begins to do her chores and take care of the little girls, a series of bizarre occurrences, including a strange phone call urging her to get out of the house, start to reveal all the terrible family secrets hidden for many years.
Campfire Legends: The Babysitter is a hidden object game with some ideas borrowed from point-and-click adventures. Most of the time, the objective is to find all the items shown at the bottom of the screen, collecting them on various locations related to the plot. The objects are stored inside the inventory at the bottom-left corner, as a tray that slides upwards to reveal its contents. The items have to be dragged and dropped from the inventory to interactive portions of the scene to perform actions or solve puzzles.
There are slots for fireflies at the bottom-right corner, where five of the insects can be stored and used as the hint system, flying towards one of the required items when activated. As they are spent, more glowworms start to appear on the locations resting discreetly over the scenery, and can be collected for extra hints. Some mini-games take place inside windows at the center of the screen, where pieces and mechanisms have to be manipulated directly to complete a sliding-tiles puzzle, reassemble the broken pieces of a plate, rotate hexagonal pieces on a box to complete a pattern and finish other challenges.
