Creed Arena is a third person shooter where the player takes the role of a contestant in a futuristic gladiator game. There are two perspectives that the player can switch between at any time: behind the shoulder and top down. The goal is to become the most famous gladiator of all time and to accomplish that the player has to enter the arena and compete in a tournament consisting of several challenges. The success of the player is measured by how many fans he manages to win over to his side. To gets the player has to impress the stadium crowd by killing enemies and completing challenges. Quick successive kills and melee kills are some ways to really increase the fame of the player while dying will cost some fans. The player has a crowd rage meter that goes up as the crowd gets impressed. When full the player becomes faster, tougher and can do extra damage.
There are four different game modes that the player will come across in the tournament. In the survival mode the player and a team mate has to survive an onslaught of monsters, wave after wave without losing all lives. The deathmatch mode is everyone against everyone and the winner is the one that first reaches a target number of kills. It also exist in a team variant. Collect the Kegs is the game's variant of capture the flag. The player has to retrieve kegs from the enemy and bring them back to the base. In the popularity mode the player competes against a team mate and has to kill waves of enemies. The one that reaches a popularity target first wins.
The Xbox 360 version features multiplayer. It allows two players to play through the tournament in co-op, both online and offline. While online up to eight players can compete. Multiplayer does not exist in the PC version. Instead the player has to play with and against bots.
