In Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come the player takes control over the crusader army which marches against Jerusalem in the late 11th century. The campaign consists of twelve tactical battles where the player needs to work with the units he's got because there is no base building. Nevertheless he has a big army with several different units to his disposal and needs to make tactical decisions, e.g. which formations to use or from which side to attack. Like most strategy games every unit has specific advantages and disadvantages regarding other units and terrain.
Between the missions the player can save his game, buy new troops or take side missions from different noble houses. If fulfilled these reward experience points which the play uses to improve the abilities of his troops and his five heroes which are basically especially strong fighters. The battles themselves don't represent the real crusade battles closely.
