After being elected mayor of the city of Peeking, Teri Tale appointed her neighbor and friend Monty as her deputy mayor. In the morning after a party at the house of a new resident, she receives a phone call from Sheriff Allen reporting that Monty was found dead, probably murdered. Enraged, she starts an investigation to find the assassin, questioning all the surrounding citizens and looking for clues that could lead to the culprit.

Like the previous titles, Danger Next Door: Miss Teri Tale's Adventure is a hidden object game where, most of the time, the main objective is to find all the items from a list at the left side of the screen, on locations filled with assorted objects. Some of the list entries have a different color, to indicate the necessity of an extra step to acquire the item. The game can be played with or without a time limit, by choosing one of the two modes at the start.

Elements of the adventure genre were added to the design this time. Some of the objects are stored inside slots in the inventory, to be used to solve puzzles. These objects have to be dragged and dropped on correct and logical places of the scenery to perform the required action. Inventory items can be combined to create a tool or another object.

Mini-games appear occasionally, taking place on a separate screen, as puzzle challenges left by the killer. The hint button is a clover that shows the position of one of the required objects, but takes some time to grow again after being plucked. [source:mobygames]
