Jane Pinkleport has learned that a virus is killing animals around the world. You, as her assistant, must help collect DNA from around the world to help cure this virus and, maybe, learn where it came from.

Discovering Nature: Exploring Adventures of Jane Pinkleport is a match three game. To make matches, you place your mouse on an animal and press the button, drag the mouse from one to the other, creating a chain then release the mouse button. Two main puzzles you will have are match same and food chain. In match same, you go from one animal to another of the same type. In food chain, you go from the animal at the top of the food chain to the one it eats to the one at the bottom of the food chain. The object is to get the same two, and later three, animals in the golden box(es). When you have collected all the required DNA from those animals, you are off to the next puzzle. When all the test tubes at the bottom are filled, you move to a new area of the Earth.

As you progress through the game, some creatures will try to hinder you. Early on, a golden monkey will splatter an animal with bananas. This animal will still drop if animals below it are matched but you will not be able to match with it while it is banana-covered. About the same time, you get a water pail power item. To retrieve the power item, make matches below it to move it to the bottom of the screen. You can then click on it then click a banana covered animal to wash off the bananas. Later, you will have a golden spider that will web an animal. Like a banana-covered animal, it will not be matchable. Unlike the bananas, the web will not let the animal drop when matches are made below it. To clear the webs, you will use the torch power item. If you cannot make any matches on the board, you can use the golden compass power item to shuffle everything, if you have collected it.

At the end of each of the first two areas of the game, you enter a mini-game. In the mini-game, spiders are hanging above, occasionally dropping down. If they touch your cannon, the mini-game is ended. You must shoot them with the cannon until they are cleared. By the third area, you will sometimes have a locust plague. When they swarm, you must click any animals who became infected, shown as red static, and all other animals in the area to save them. You will not be able to click banana-covered or webbed animals.
