After suffering recurring nightmares that start to disrupt her daily routine, Hazel goes to a psychoanalyst for hypnosis sessions, where she must investigate the information stored in her subconscious mind and find out the origins of her problems.
Doors of the Mind: Inner Mysteries is a hidden object game with adventure elements. Most of the time, the objective is to find and click on all the items listed at the bottom, on locations filled with assorted objects. The list displays either names or images of the required objects. Some scenes have a gameplay variation, where the goal is to put back a series of objects to the location by dragging and dropping them from the bottom tray to their appropriate places. The hint button highlights the position of one of the required items, but takes a minute to recharge after use.
In some instances the objective is to solve an adventure section, where the player has to collect and use a series of tools to complete all the scene tasks and continue the game. The objects are stored in the inventory at the bottom of the screen, from where they can picked up and used over a logical portion of the scenery to perform an action.
Mini-games appear at certain points, taking place on separate screens where the player has to distribute horse statues of different weights on scales to reach equilibrium, find all the differences between two similar images, play a Mastermind variation with a slot machine, assemble a jigsaw puzzle, and complete other similar challenges. They can be optionally skipped after a minute.
