Down in Flames is an online strategy game that takes place during World War II. In the game you control a squadron of fighter planes and attack enemies in turn based fashion.
There are three types of missions: dogfight, escort and intercept. Players have to perform various stunt manoeuvres such as loops, tight turns and scissors in the hope to force their opponent in a tight position after which they can start shooting. A confrontation takes six turns (about four minutes in real life) and the aim for the players is to do as much damage to the opponent as possible.
After every combat your pilots gain experience points. With enough points you can upgrade various skills for them which allow them to pull more complex manoeuvres and fly more advanced aircraft. each aircraft has its own parameters that define which options are available during a match.
