FlipOut is a Breakout variant developed for the 2008 Assembly summer convention. The classic concept of bouncing a ball towards bricks to clear an entire area to win the level, with the bottom being an endless pit of death where the ball can disappear, has not changed. Instead, it has been remade into 3D, with a slightly slanted playfield affected by realistic physics. That means gravity needs to be taken into account and the ball does not travel at a consistent speed when launched.
Also, instead of merely bouncing the ball, the paddle consists of two sides that can be tilted to launch the ball towards the bricks, similar to the flippers in a pinball game. There are different levels to choose from and many power-ups that affect the ball, the paddle and the field's gravity. Some bricks are unbreakable or require multiple hits to destroy. Also, bricks do not simply disappear but they form debris that hinders the ball or prevents the power-ups from falling down.
