Garshasp: The Monster Slayer is a third-person melee brawler similar to the God of War series. The game borrows significantly from Persian mythology, with much of the game's plot being derived from the epic poem Garshasp-naame by Asadi Tusi and the Avesta sacred texts.
During the events of the game, the hero Garshasp must battle through a world occupied by monsters and fiendish creatures called Deevs to avenge the death of his brother and reclaim the legendary mace of his ancestors. The story is told by the presence of a wise-sounding narrator as well as detailed CGI cutscenes, which help elaborate the mystical plot and to introduce the player to dramatic combat sequences.
Gameplay consists of exploring an ancient Persian kingdom while killing enemies and completing a variety of platforming and other puzzles. Combat itself mostly involves fighting hordes of enemies, with Garshasp using a variety of battle moves and combat combinations to defeat his enemies. Unique to the game is the "grab" attack, where Garshasp will enter a short Quick Time Event where he instantly kills an enemy, assuming it is a weak opponent or one that has been sufficiently weakened by earlier attacks. This is useful when fighting large numbers of opponents.
