Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is a online Role Playing game set in Ancient Rome. The player takes the role of a commander who has to save Rome from its many enemies, e.g. barbarians, rebels or mythological creatures like centaurs. The basic gameplay follows the genre standards: the player takes on quests - which include mostly killing or fetching a certain amount of monsters/items - to receive experience points. Those result in level ups which reward pre-defined new abilities and "feat" points which are reinvested in three talent trees (two are dependent on which of the five classes was chosen). Additionally every character serves a god which grants special abilities if their quests are solved.

Combat is passive: the player only chooses which enemy to attack and what abilities to use. However, as commander the player also has a squad with up to four people to his disposal. It is possible to assign either rough behaviour patterns or detailed orders. The squad members belong to a class, which can be important for dealing with boss encounters, and can be exchanged at special statues. As additional motivational factor, the player gets a big, decayed estate which serves as headquarter. It can be built up and upgraded by solving the associated quest line, but there is no customization available. [source:mobygames]
