GunGirl 2, the sequel to GunGirl, is a violent side-scrolling platform shooter. Playing as GunGirl or GunDude the player has to overcome a zombie apocalypse that came about in a single night, rescue survivors and find out what has happened. Gameplay is non-linear with branching paths and there are various customization elements that provide additional depth. These include six different weapons (pistol, shotgun, icicle gun, fireblade launcher, sawblade cannon and a special weapon), with alternate firing modes and a power-up bar for the weapon filled by collecting G letters. These make the weapon stronger, but as soon as the main character is hit, the amount in the bar decreases. Based on the amount of G-Power, each weapon has three additional settings with improved features, such as automatic firing, faster bullet speed and more damage. Characters can also collect cash to shop for additional upgrades.
Killing enemies yields experience that can be spent on 18 different kinds of abilities and power-ups, such as more effective medikits, raising the G-Power cap or reducing the lost amount when hit, boosting health or the amount of bullets per pistol clip, and more. Characters follow a main quest but can accept sub quests as well and carry various items. The different levels include city landscapes, tunnels and outdoor areas, along with a hellish parallel dimension. Most enemies belong to the undead kind and many cannot be killed permanently. When the player sticks around for too long, they just keep respawning.
There are different difficulty settings, unlockable game modes and a secret character.
