Haunted House is a fanmade remake of the Atari 2600 title of the same name. Your job is to collect a secret urn from the haunted house of Zacharey Graves. The house consists of 24 rooms, spanning 4 floors. Each room is completely dark, but an unlimited amount of matches has been provided. The main character, which was nothing but a pair of eyes in the original, has been replaced with a male protagonist. He has a scare meter which is filled with frights upon touching enemies such as ghosts, giant spiders and bats. A total of nine scares is fatal.
Using a top-down view, you can only see a limited area as you move about. While collecting pieces of the urn, placed at random locations each game, you can use a scepter to become invisible and a key to open locked doors, but it is not possible to carry more than one item at a time. A new addition in this 2004 version are light switches. These can be used to lighten up the rooms completely, but fans of the original can disable this feature. The final score is based on the amount of matches used, the number of scares and the gameplay time.
