Heroes in Guitarland is a demake of the popular music/rhythm game Guitar Hero, created for the TIGSource Bootleg Demakes competition. The game looks as if it has been made for the NES platform, with similar graphics and chiptune music that has been adapted to the range of NES sounds.
The screen shows a band playing near the bottom of the screen with above it nine columns of notes. Just like the Guitar Hero games, players need to press the correct buttons at the right time when a note passes the bottom of the screen. Instead of colours, the numbers one to nine are used and the keys near the top of the player's keyboard need to be pressed. Just like the original game, the main melody is not heard when the timing is off and when too many notes are lost the song ends. While playing, the game keeps track of the score.
From the main menu, two different difficulty modes can be selected. The first version of the game includes only one song, "While My Synth Fiercly Weeps" by Tommy Preger and performed by 2a03.
