Hot Wired is a game about high-end car heists. At the behest of a crime boss who has an endless list of clients interested in such vehicles, your job is to jack pricey automobiles and drive them across the county line and outside of local law enforcement jurisdiction.
The action takes place in 10 major U.S. cities. You start each course by selecting a car that you plan to steal and drive across the border. At the outset, there are only 2 cars available with the remaining cars being "locked" until you earn enough credits from your criminal adventures to unlock more cars. The first two cars resemble certain real-world sports cars (the game does not use officially licensed cars) while some of the unlockable vehicles feature a cop car and a semi.
The driving action consists primarily of staying on the road and avoiding major damage to the vehicle, which reduces its black market value. The cops are nearly suicidal in their determination to catch you and will ram you from all angles in an effort to thwart your robbery. There are other hazards to watch out for such as freeway intersections, sharp turns, and busy stretches of traffic. Hot Wired also gives you 12 different camera angles (selectable through the 12 keyboard function keys) through which to view the action. Angles include in-seat, rear view, front view (camera looking back at the car, opposite from direction of travel), and wide area chase view.
