Because, like Breakout, no platform is complete until it has its own port, this is the iPad's welcome party to the community of real gaming platforms: its own conversion of ADVENTURE, the original (!) text adventure game, sending virtual spelunkers in search of underground treasures in a magical, factual cave complex for over three decades now, accepting player input through a two-word text parser on machines as diverse as the PDP-10 minicomputer (enshrined here in the game's help and history section, along with hints, maps and the game's original source code!) to Apple's newest and latest. All game output is written on the screen as though through an imaginary teletype terminal, and the iPad's virtual on-screen keyboard is quite handy for entering the player's instructions. Background illustrations help to establish the scene, and text display sound effects reinforce the terminal metaphor.
