Indiana Jones Adventure World is a browser game that can be played on Facebook. It is a relaunch of the game called Adventure World, initially made independently of the Indiana Jones franchise before a deal with Lucasfilm was struck. The main content of the game was initially added as an additional chapter dubbed Indiana Jones and the Calendar of the Sun, made available for all players of level 3 or higher, but with the addition of the chapter the game's title was changed to reference Indiana Jones. The addition of the chapter changed the game's main story and gameplay elements.
The game takes place in 1934. The player takes on the role of the newest member of a group called the Adventure Society, which travels around the world to uncover ancient mysteries and retrieve ancient artifacts. The player receives letters from Indiana Jones by air mail as they uncover the secret of El Dorado in Central America. They later travel to Egypt to solve the riddle of the Sphinx, and to Tibet to uncover the mystery of the Yeti. In another set of missions, the player can team up with a non-playable Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones was flown by Jock Lindsey, the pilot from Raiders of the Lost Ark, to South America to search for the Calendar of the Sun, an artifact believed to cause eclipses. The calendar is made up of two pieces, one representing the sun and one representing the moon. The player searches for the lunar component, while Indy travels off-screen to the Temple of the Sun to search for the solar component. A rival of Indiana Jones, Doctor Forrestal (the man who was a skeleton who had been killed by a spear trap in Raiders of the Lost Ark) is also searching for the calendar.
The game is an exploration game with action elements. The player must collect objects, solve puzzles, push blocks, and set off traps in order to find artifacts in each mission. In the action parts, the player uses their blade to cut grass and bushes, and their whip to fight enemies. The fighting system is a turn-based system that includes dodges. The player can also use their whip to swing across gaps, and they can purchase items such as dynamite or grappling hooks to help them reach out of the way areas. The player has energy which is lost when any action is made or when the player is hurt. Walking does not use up energy, nor does swinging across gaps.
The player has a base camp which is used to collect money and experience, as well as to collect energy, oil, water, food. and supplies through structures that can be built. Each structure takes a large amount of materials to build, which are obtained by asking a Facebook friend or buying adventure dollars with actual money (or through completing offers by affiliate companies). The structures can be upgraded to give you more quantities of needed items, but each upgrade also requires large amounts of materials to build.
Most quests also require items from Facebook friends, and they must be completed in a specified amount of time. Each quest requires a certain amount of items (workers (which can either be your Facebook friends or workers hired using adventure dollars), food, water, oil, and supplies). When the quest is completed, you are given experience, and usually an object to place in your base camp.
