After a series of mysterious glowing runes start to appear all over the world, a reporter is assigned to investigate the strange occurrences around the globe.
Journalist Journey: The Eye of Odin is a hidden object game with some elements from the adventure genre. Most of the time, the objective is to find and click on all the items listed at the right side of the screen, on locations filled with assorted paraphernalia scattered around the scenery. Some of the list entries are spelled in red to indicate the need of an extra step to acquire them, usually by opening a zoom view window or using one of the available inventory tools. A few of the collected objects are stored inside the inventory, as Polaroid photographs at the top of the screen, from where they can be dragged and dropped over appropriate and logical portions of the scene to perform an action or complete a pending task.
At certain points, gameplay variations and mini-games appear where the cursor is replaced by a camera viewfinder and the player has to take photos of specific portions of the scenery, trace mystic runes by following an outline, reassemble picture puzzles by rotating hexagonal pieces and complete other similar challenges. These mini-games can be optionally skipped after a few minutes. The hint button shows the position of one of the required objects when activated, but takes some time to recharge after use.
