Kwari was an online multiplayer first-person shooter played for cash. The entire game was available for free, but players had to buy ammunition in Kwadri Dollar (K$). For instance, 5,000 rounds cost $5. Every time a shot lands, it costs the hit player money. The amount (between one eurocent and one euro) is agreed upon prior to starting the match. Players earn money by hitting other players or holding on to an object known as The Pill for the longest time and/or as the last player during a match. There are also key jackpots requiring the player to collect a number of keys hidden in crates in exchange for cash. Finally there are separate challenges that often require multiple matches to complete. These include killing an opponent while in the air or getting five kills in less than one minute. No part of the stake goes back to the company, players only pay for the bullets.
The game uses a classic WASD setup for movement combined with the mouse for aiming. There are ten guns to choose from: Uzu 10mm Machine Pistol, TT-829 Assault Rifle, King Industries "Protagonist" Shotgun, CL1-V3 Rocket Launcher, "Nova" Kinetic Sniper Rifle, E.D.I. Plasma Globe, Hendon Mining MKV Ion Beam, AUTech FTMG (Flame-Throwing Machine Gun), S&B MK-II Blade Launcher and the Swarm Gun. When out of ammo, players can also buy additional rounds in-game.
There is a large selection of game types and players are brought together based on their skill level. Each match has a specific game type, the value of each health point, a cost for pick-ups and special rules, and a minimum game balance required. Weapons, items and power-ups picked up during gameplay cost money as well, but these go into cash prizes to be won during the match. Pick-ups include Health, Overcharge (more damage), Guardian Shield (three auto-aiming rockets circle and defend the player), The Rush (+50% speed), Super Health (50 points health boost), Regeneration, Suicide Belt (detonates a large blast when the player is killed), Coin (instant cash boost) and Jackpot Keys.
After respawning, players start with 100% health and the machine gun. Next to the general level design, the game also includes various traps to damage and hinder the player. There are Tesla Traps that electrocute the player when standing too close for too long, while Fire Traps unleash a cloud of flames.
The game is developed by Micro Forté's Canberra Studio.
