Mr Johnson is afraid of ghosts. Unfortunately, a large pink specimen of the species is never far from him. Despite Mr Johnson's fear, this ghost is, if not the friendly sort, at least benevolent -- Mr Johnson runs in terror from it, heedless of all the far more real dangers all around him, while the ghost (the player's mouse cursor) selectively manifests (by clicking) to the left or right, above or below, in order to change the direction of Mr Johnson's oblivious flight, make him crouch or jump and avoid coming to harm. The ghost can also interact with enemies and obstacles, crunching through them by pressing the A key when close enough for gears to appear.
As if mere survival wasn't enough in this situation, the treacherous terrain (strewn liberally with zombies, pits, and torture devices) also boasts some wriggling sacks in hard-to-reach places, collecting (rather, directing Mr Johnson to collect) which is an additional goal. Mr Johnson has but one life, but gameplay can be resumed from checkpoints.
