As the Tree of Life withers and dies, the dark wizard Balaak approaches the once peaceful Kingdom of Rosefal, returning to the world after being banished one thousand years ago by an alliance between mortals and elementals. The warrior princess Serena and her companions embark on a quest to save Rosefal from the evil sorcerer, searching the land for several magical items required to defeat him.
The Lost Kingdom Prophecy is essentially the same game as its predecessor, but with a fourth matching variation added to the available options. The gameplay remains the same, where the player has to choose one of the four game types and the grid configuration for the tile-matching levels. Hidden object challenges appear after completing several match-three stages, where the objective is to find and collect the scattered pieces of the items displayed at the top of the screen. After being reassembled, these objects must be placed on the correct spots to complete the scene.
Before each tile-matching level, a configuration screen appears where the four gameplay mechanics and three level geometries can be selected. The geometry options alter the shape of the tile grid, with the piece slots arranged in formations of square and hexagon shapes. After selecting the swap mechanic, the objective is to click two adjacent pieces to switch places, creating a straight line of three or more tiles of the same type to make them disappear. With the chain mechanic, the goal is to click and drag groups of connected tiles of the same kind to remove them from the game. In the group mechanic, the player has to click on clusters of identical tiles to make them vanish. The new variation is the change mechanic, where tiles have to be dragged and dropped anywhere in the grid to change places with other tokens and make matches.
A water column slowly drying up at the right side shows the time left to finish the level. The lionhead bust at the bottom-left corner shoots lightning bolts after six consecutive matches, destroying a random number of tiles. A series of power-ups buttons charge with each match at the bottom of the screen: the axe smashes one tile, the bomb explodes surrounding tiles, the Fire Phoenix burns random pieces and the tornado shuffles the entire board. Other power-ups, like the rainbow tile that acts as a wildcard matching any color, appear on the grid after making large matches. A single portion of an inventory tool is received after finishing a level, and when the item is complete it is stored to be used later on the hidden object screen.
