The pirate Francis Lafitte was severely wounded on his left arm while plundering and boarding a ship. Not trusting anyone, he went deep into the Caribbean jungle and buried his treasure in a secret place. After returning to Port Royal, the untreated wound became darker and his condition got worse, forcing him to send his daughter to retrieve part of the hidden booty to pay for a doctor.

Lost Secrets: Caribbean Explorer - Secrets of the Sea is a hidden object game with a pirate theme. Most of the time, the objective is to find and click on all the items from the list at the top of the screen, on taverns, ship decks and other buccaneer-related locations filled with assorted objects. Three slowly burning candles sitting at the right side of the list show the remaining time left to complete the scene. Golden doubloons with an embossed Jolly Roger can also be found scattered around the scenery. They can be collected for extra hints, accumulating on a coin stack at the left of the list. The hint coins can be clicked to show the exact position of one of the required items.

Occasionally, mini-games appear between the hidden object screens. They are implementations of well-known classic games, like jigsaw puzzles with maps, solitaire, dice throws for extra time, concentration/memory and a spot-the-differences activity where the screen is split in two similar images.
