Lucifer's Kingdom is one of the rare vertically scrolling shoot'em'ups for the Dragon 32. In order to achieve smooth scrolling, the play area is limited to a block roughly half the size of the screen, with the rest of the screen area dedicated to score and status displays.
The game borrows basic looks, though not as much mechanism, from Tehkan's influential Star Force, ranging from the starting ramp which marks the beginning of the level, to the looks of the enemy waves and the chunks of ground floating in space, filled with squares marked with the letter B. Another obvious influence is that the areas of the game are named after letters in the Greek alphabet. One trait that sets Lucifer's Kingdom apart, however, is that you collect crystals (xtals), which is done by repeatedly shooting the bricks marked C until they give away and release a crystal.
