Game Classification

Pipe Panic is a mixture of Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros. where the player can play as either Mario or Luigi in the place of Pac-Man and the ghosts have been replaced with four different colored piranha plants (Death, Poison, Thorn and Petey). A short story also references many other Mario games where the main goal is to rescue somebody, mostly Peach, but in this case they have to save Toad instead.

The maze has been redesigned with green pipes the player navigates using the "left" and "right" arrow keys, dots have been replaced with coins and energy pellets have been replaced with invincibility stars that will temporarily turn the plants into ghosts versions. Fruit has also been replaced by mushrooms and the player starts out with three lives. [source:mobygames]
