Maru is a platformer by Jesse Venbrux partly based on the mechanics previously explored in his title Frozzd. It consists of seven levels where a small, black character needs to travel to the end. This is done by hopping from shape to shape, each with its own field of gravity. The character is generally able to run around the shapes and needs to avoid spikes. Later levels introduce moving and rotating platforms.
During the journey black icons can be picked up that follow the player around. These act as lives and when dying, one of them takes over. Dead versions leave behind bright lights that can picked up to follow around the character as well. Replaying the game is encouraged through a mechanic that nudges the player to go over certain levels again to complete a puzzle that cannot be solved initially.
