Money Tree is a resource management game where the player has to take care of a tree and collect its fruit. At the start of each stage the tree is a small sapling with buds. Leaves and money fall from the sky and have to picked and placed on the buds so the plant can grow. Leaves sprout flowers that spring fruits, and bills grow stacks of money.
This produce can be collected after appearing on the tree. Their value vary according to their stage of maturity. Their peak value is when they are falling from the tree. For example, a fruit collected while falling is worth 6, but 3 if it is picked after hitting the ground.
The objective of each stage is to amass a set amount of money within a time limit. At the top of the screen there are two gauges, a blue one for water level and a red one for temperature. Markings indicate the limit points of each. Weather conditions change their status, and the lack or excess of resources creates unproductive dead branches that must be clicked to be healed.
Tools are available to buy that help maintaining the balance. Sprinklers increase the water level. Heating lamps increase the temperature. The catalog also has a fertilizer bottle that speeds the growth process.
Caterpillars attack randomly the tree, devouring the leaves. To get rid of these pests, the player has to click repeatedly on them, or buy an insecticide spray bottle that kills every single creature at once.
The money can also be spent buying decorations for the garden that unlock new stages and help the main character to gain the affection of a girl.
