Game Classification

The Necronomicon is a single player card game based on the works of HP Lovecraft where you battle against your opponent by attacking with cards, casting spells and summoning creatures.

Each player is dealt 5 cards and take it in turns to play a card against the opponent, dealing damage, healing themselves, or 'tainting' the opponent and boosting your attack power and defense. After both players have used a card, a new card replaces each card that was played. Cards cost 'sanity' points to play, and if you spend all your sanity points you go insane and get affected by different types of phobias or other maladies that make it harder to win.

Both the player and the CPU go up ranks, and with each rank, extra life is awarded, and at certain times new cards are unlocked.

There is also a Challenge Mode, where you try to defeat the CPU in increasingly difficult situations such as having only 5 health to start with.

Scores are received after each battle, and a final score and other stats are displayed at the end of the 30 ranks of play. [source:mobygames]
