Nuclear Dawn is a team shooter set in a post-nuclear world. Two factions, the Empire and the Consortium of Free State, fight to gain control over the world. The six maps mostly represent cities like London. The main selling point of the game is the mix between first-person shooter and real-time strategy game: one player takes the role as commander and the rest of the team are his units.
The commander's job basic job consists of constructing and maintaining a base. e.g. energy supply, teleporters which function as spawn points or defense measures. Additionally he can give orders to his teammates. For those the game is a traditional shooter. Another focus of the game mechanics lies on specialization: every player can choose between four classes with special talents and advantages and every class has different equipment sets available. Additionally the commander unlocks weapon upgrades.
However, the commander can only construct buildings if he has resource points. These are gained when a control point is in the possession of a team - every map has a few smaller and a big, central one which needs two soldiers defending it. There are two playing modes: team deathmatch and warfare; the latter having the goal to destroy the other team's commando central.
