Pandora's Pests is an arcade game wherein the object is to prevent an assortment of bugs ranging from ants to scorpions from causing the player's untimely demise. Killing those that pose a threat provide the player with upgrades and additional points, presented as currency, which can be entered into a High Score chart at the end of the game.
While on an idyllic vacation at a remote resort your stay is interrupted by the arrival of hordes of unlikable and unwanted insects. Not wanting your vacation to be utterly ruined, or for yourself to be eaten alive, you do your best to crush the life out of these intruders. Returning home you're startled with the realization that this is by no means a singular event. This is a wholesale invasion. Now you must traverse the world in search of the Pandora's Box, your only chance being to destroy it and end this seemingly unstoppable attack.
Locations in the game are represented as stationary images, and as such the game world can not be actively traversed by the player. Visible in every screen is our unfortunate hero's arm and while everything that shows itself clearly is deserving of death, those that have found their way onto his arm bear the greatest threat. Insects crawling along this vulnerable outcropping of the protagonist are liable to bite or sting, causing a decrease in health that can only lead to a Game Over screen.
As the player gets rid of ever more bugs they gain upgrades in the form of additional skills, extra health, and new found weapons, such as newspapers and fly swatters.
