Peg Game One of the very earliest web games, this pits the human player against a computer opponent on a 7x7 board filled with three kinds of game pieces (pegs, apparently): green circles, worth no points to anyone, blue squares, and red triangles. Those latter two shapes are randomly assigned as valuable to either the human or computer players, and then the human gets to select the first move -- setting in motion a chain of moves.

From whichever was the board cell most recently chosen by the other player, the current player gets to select one adjacent (cross or diagonal) square to move to, collecting any points gained for gathering their target shape and nullifying the value of the square, making it inaccessible on future approaches. This cell-by-cell voyage around the board continues until a location is selected from which no further moves can be made, at which point a final score is tallied. Canny players may determine that striving to minimise their opponent's scoring may prove to be as important as maximising their own. [source:mobygames]
