Polizei is a simulation about the German police. Players take the role of a team of two control cops: a man with pistol and baton and a woman with pepper spray and signalling disk. Players can freely switch between the two; the other one is controlled by the AI.
The game is divided into 12-hour-shifts (30 minuted play time) in which players have to solve a random task, e.g. finding and punishing a certain number of parking violators, and get set loose on the open city environment. Sometimes there are also emergency calls with additional tasks which can be tackled. The whole goal of the game is to have a high amount of points at the end of the shift; points are rewarded for successfully solved tasks.
Said tasks have the same basic procedure: scanning cars or people with the PDA. Then it shows if the suspect is a criminal or not - if yes they attack or flee. Then the protagonists need to use their tools to defend themselves or pursue the culprit. With their PDA they also can call ambulances to rescue wounded persons, trucks to tow off parking offenders or defect cars from traffic accidents or a police van to collect arrested people. They also can call their own car if they lost it.
The shifts ends without success when the cops are wounded. Just like in reality, they can't run over civilians (because of an invisible wall around them) or use force against innocents (except pepper spray).
