Pop'em is a simplified tile matching puzzle game. Like many Free Lunch Design releases, the game can be played quickly during a coffee break.
Using only the mouse, the objective is to clear all the tiles from a 10x8 grid and achieve the highest score. Two or more adjacent tiles can be removed by clicking on them. When clicked, tile groups poised for removal will vibrate, click again to remove them. Tiles succumb to gravity and fall when others below are removed. Just like in other games such as Sega Swirl, bigger clumps of matching tiles means bigger bonuses. The game is over when the board is cleared or no tile matches are left.
There are four modes of game play that can be changed between games, or before a change has been made to the starting grid.
Traditional: New tiles will not appear, are affected by gravity and columns shift right when a full column gap appears.Continuous: Same as Traditional except removing columns will cause new blocks to appear from the left.Shifter: Same as Traditional except gravity pulls from the right as well.Megashifter: Combines Continuous and Shifter. The game also also allows the player to undo the last move, has soothing music, a high score table, and five sets of tile themes that can be changed anytime.
