Prism: Guard Shield Similar to America's Army which was a popular recruitment game made by the U.S. Army, Prism: Guard Shield was made by the U.S. Army National Guard, a reserve military force composed of state National Guard militia members or units under federally recognized active or inactive armed force service, as a free promotional game to attract citizens to enlist. You play as a member of a secretive homeland defense unit known as PRISM which takes on terrorist threats through a combination of stealth and action in the near future where cities such as Washington, D.C. and San Francisco are under threat. P.R.I.S.M. (Pre-emptive Reconnaissance and Identification Security Mainframe) allows the government to wirelessly hack into video surveillance equipment from traffic light control cameras to home webcams and using face recognition system to monitor any known terrorists.

In Mission Mode, you are briefed on the current terrorist threat and given specific mission objectives to complete to progress through the game. In cooperative multiplayer mission mode, players fight on the same team against the game?s AI. Players choose their specific set of objectives at the start of the mission and your teammates may be needed to accomplish it. There is also a Tactical Combat Mode which is a typical one-on-one or team vs team deathmatch.

There's 7 characters with 3 unique enemy types and you can use 8 near-future weapons. Silenced weapons and a Taser stun-gun allow for silent stealth kills. You can also use "Night Vision" capability to surprise your enemy in the dark. The game also offers unique features such as a Hover Camera which you can command, and a Picture-In-Picture capability.

On November 26, 2008 release 3 came out with extra weapons and more levels for a total of 5 single-player (including at an airport, train station, and oil refinery) and 5 multi-player (including at a football stadium and on an island). [source:mobygames]
