Puzzle Hero is a game very similar, and probably inspired by Puzzle Quest, a RPG with match-three mechanics. As in several RPGs, the player initially creates a custom character whose statistics will increase while playing. The main difference is in the combat system, where the strikes and accumulation of experience points are based on Bejeweled-like tile matching.
The combat screen has the player character on the far left and the enemy on the far right. There's a grid full of objects below between the adversaries. Each successful match of three or more crossed swords tiles makes the character attack the enemy. Matching shields makes the character defend against enemy attacks, health potions gives more HP points to the character, laurel crowns give experience points and wizard pointy hats give mana. The grid also has bags of gold that when matched add to the funds. The money acquired can be spent on equipment on town shops between battles.
The game grants an extra turn if the player makes a match of more than three tiles. Conversely, a turn is lost if the player makes a move that doesn't finish in a match. Magic items can be bought and equipped, and their spells (poison, fire, ice, and so on) can be activated during battle by clicking on a small book at bottom-left of the screen.
