In Fallout 3, within the confines of Hubris Comics, there is a terminal where players can play with a "beta" (complete with game logic bugs and spelling errors) of a brief but completable text adventure in the classic idiom. In this game-within-a-game the player, a sword-wielding adventurer, needs to overcome a few small problems and interact with some stock fantasy characters and monsters (wizard, priest, zombie) in order to become sufficiently powerful (eg. improving the starting equipment of "rusty sword") to defeat the sinister overlord Grelok.
