This remake of La Abadía del Crimen adds a new set of features to the isometric adventure from 1987. The code was reverse-engineered from the official PC port, to maintain a high level of fidelity with the original game, and reimplemented to run on modern machines with enhancements. There are three sets of graphics: two from the Amstrad CPC port with monochromatic and limited color palettes, and a new VGA mode with 256 colors. Besides the original Spanish, the game language can be switched to Catalan, English, Finnish, Portuguese (from Portugal or Brazil), Italian and Galician. These settings can be changed on the fly with the right-click menu, without the need to restart the game. The remake also has more realistic sounds and a rearranged soundtrack.
The gameplay remains the same: the player controls Guillermo, a Franciscan monk renowned for his sharp intellect, visiting an abbey where several of the friars were found murdered under mysterious circumstances. While staying on the abbey, Guillermo and his assistant novice have to investigate the place and interview witnesses, while attending all the main events of the daily routines, like holy functions and meals. The main character can be expelled from the abbey if the rules are not respected, or die when handling certain objects. The plot is an unofficial adaptation of the famous Umberto Eco novel, "The Name of the Rose".
